I hold a Chair in Educational Ergonomics and Design at the Centre of Arts, Memory and Communities, Coventry University, UK. My research centres around user centred design and human factors – putting people and their needs first in the design of sociotechnical systems – whether these are health, educational, entrepreneurial or transport systems. I am also ethics lead for the centre and am always ready to support new PhD students.
I have been fortunate enough to lead several large European projects related to sustainable transport and gender. – the most recent of these are related to reducing gender transport poverty and gender inequalities in entrepreneurship and innovation – the Gender and Innovation Living Lab.
In terms of Living Labs. I am leader of the Working Group for gender and Innovation and a member of City Lab Coventry and https://www.fablabs.io/labs/fablabcov. Through City Lab Coventry we build capacity of local, excluded community members – whether through the development of practical and interpersonal skills, supporting new business start-up, research skills and helping their voices be heard in the design of local services.
